Kara made the trek to Madison this weekend for Geek kon 2009, and I must say I was a bit disappointed. The convention space itself was rather ill-suited for its purposes and (while the causality could be debated) the con seemed a bit frantic. Things were both spread-thin across the hotel and cramped shoulder-to-shoulder in other locals. Not trying to be overly critical, but I think it was fact regardless. Not to mention the missing of Steam Century due to a disorganized volunteer system that was both signing people up for eight-hours of shifts without their knowing and turning others who wanted to volunteer their time away. Granted the SC people were kind enough to let us Daisho Staff poke our heads into their clue room for a tour - it looked like it would have been great and I can't wait to see them at Daisho.

Still, it was undeniably a fun weekend, despite the fact that everyone thought that I was cosplay as Near (JOSHUA! DAMNIT!) Saved myself a lot of cash at one point when Aminar and I totally sniped Anime Milwaukee's trivia contest at their room party and I won a pre-reg (so yes kids, I'll be at AMIL again this year). Daisho's room party was a success, got a good amount of people pre-regged and got a spot on 'Badger Report' or some kind of local Madison/UWM TV thing or another. Also taught Sks and the crew how to play a bunch of fun new games, as well as taught her why corn is so funny in the anime community. I even got twenty-some people to party-boy dance Nick Izumi at the dance for my twisted enjoyment.

And of course, it was good to see all of my con friends. Like the awesome and fearless NoBrand staffers Balnibarbi and Yushi (the latter of which I may or may not have had a few scary akin-to-kidnapping-experiences at the hands of >.> ). Plus the Hetalia group of fun and silly, Nozomi and a few others of my con friends, plus some new ones.

All around fun, but I'm thinking in retrospect the con probably wasn't worth twenty-five dollars of admission. We'll have to see what Geek kon comes up with next year.
